HUAWEI Luna 2000 energy storage - benefits and price
All Huawei inverters of the SUN2000 2-6 KTL-L1 and SUN2000 3-10KTL-M0/M1 series can be connected to the Luna2000 energy storage. This is a great solution, especially when it comes to the upcoming changes in the law from April 1, 2022. We talked about them in a separate article: link.
The energy storage will work great in the new net-billing system. The energy produced in the period when it is the cheapest, e.g. 13:00-15:00, will be able to be stored and sent to the grid only when its price is the highest, e.g. at 20:00.
What are the benefits of using an energy storage?
The use of the Luna2000 energy storage at home brings many benefits, which are summarized below:
- Daily balancing of the energy produced by photovoltaic modules.
In the current billing system, 20% of energy is transferred to the power industry in exchange for its storage. Thanks to the energy storage, we can minimize this value. By charging the storage during the day and using energy from the storage when there is no sun.
2. Use of Backup Box technology to provide emergency power supply on the guaranteed circuit.
The Backup Box technology allows for emergency maintenance of the guaranteed circuit in the event of a power outage. Warehouse transition time in off-grid mode is 3 seconds. In this mode of operation, the photovoltaic modules recharge the energy storage it supplies selected circuit (1 phase) on your home network.
3. Easily expandable up to 30 kWh capacity.
Thanks to the modular nature of the storage, we can freely combine individual batteries to achieve the desired capacity or peak power. The only limitation is the use of two management modules.
4. Lithium iron phosphate (LFP - LiFePO4) technology, for which Huawei gives a 10-year warranty (approx. 4,000 daily discharge cycles).
Lithium iron phosphate (Li-FePO4) technology combines the advantages of high current efficiency, long service life, high energy density and safety. It is a type of high-power lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries. Li-FePO4 cells show increased resistance to improper operating conditions compared to other technologies. Therefore, they are used in electric cars, power tools, and more and more often in home energy storage.
A big advantage of these cells is their service life, which reaches several thousand charge/discharge cycles. However, like most lithium batteries, they require the use of an appropriate PCM/PCB/BMS protection circuit.
The most important features:
- Low self-discharge
- Large capacity
- Long service life
- No memory effect
- Fast charging process
Energy storages will certainly gain great popularity on the Polish market, especially when we find out what subsidies prosumers who want to install it can count on. At the moment, the Huawei Luna 2000 warehouse is still behind the competition in terms of the number of phases in off-grid mode and switching time. A solution that would have more extensive functionalities is, for example, SofarSlar HYD with Pylontech batteries, but more on that in a separate article.
How much does such a warehouse cost?
The price of the components themselves in the smallest variant of 5 kWh is around PLN 21,500. The set consists of a battery module and a management module. Subsequent battery modules are a cost around PLN 15,000.
