Perovskites - another graphene or a revolution on the photovoltaic market?

We have incredible potential in Poland, which we have finally learned to use. Olga Malinkiewicz, Piotr Krycha and Artur Kupczunas founded Saule Technologies, which has recently become a pioneer in the production of perovskite cells.
What is a perovskite? In fact, it is another inorganic mineral that, when chemically processed in the laboratory, becomes an ideal candidate for a material that produces electricity from light. At the moment, this is the only promising competition for silicon cells, which currently dominate the market. It should be remembered that the 90% cost of a typical photovoltaic module that we can currently buy on the market is the price of glass and aluminum, which only protect the fragile silicon cells. It will also be similar in the case of using another mineral responsible for the photoelectric effect. Where to look for an advantage, if not the price plays the main role?
As we know, for monocrystalline silicon cells, it is very difficult to achieve an efficiency above 20% in mass production. This is, by the way, a very good result, but in a world where the technology and possibilities of using photovoltaic cells exceed the limits, this is not enough. We have dozens of possible applications where we could use photovoltaics, the first example is the roof of an electric car. Today, it would not make much sense to use such a solution due to the too low power (low efficiency) of such a silicon cell. Our car would probably charge for about a month. Perovskites are a promising technology where cell efficiencies can reach much higher values. Wouldn't it be really amazing to be able to extend the range of an electric vehicle on a sunny day around 30% while driving?
Returning to the heroes of this entry, we are full of hope and we keep our fingers crossed for our scientists and entrepreneurs who are working on this technology, developing it and will slowly introduce it to the market. We will certainly be one of the first photovoltaic companies that will use this type of innovative solutions.
